Padang, 20 February 2020

Universitas Andalas continues to strengthen the quality of higher education through various learning quality improvement programs that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which emphasizes inclusive and quality education, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), which promotes innovation and institutional capacity development in education. These efforts are being carried out through a workshop on improving the quality of teaching materials as well as the provision of grant funding for lecturers to enhance the quality of the learning process on campus.

The Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LP3M) of Universitas Andalas organized a Workshop on the Development of Teaching Materials Quality on Thursday, February 20, 2020, in the Leadership Meeting Room of the Auditorium Building, Universitas Andalas, Limau Manis Campus, Padang. The activity was aimed at improving the quality of lecturers’ teaching materials while also strengthening the competitiveness of Universitas Andalas graduates in entering the workforce.

Head of LP3M Universitas Andalas, Prof. Henny Lucida, explained that the activity was a follow-up to the Kampus Merdeka policy introduced by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Through the workshop, lecturers were encouraged to improve the quality of their teaching materials and update their learning methods in order to produce more competitive graduates.

During the activity, LP3M also emphasized the importance of implementing an Outcome Based Education (OBE) curriculum, which focuses on student learning outcomes rather than merely on the delivery of course content. In addition, the development of online teaching methods and curriculum strengthening became key priorities in efforts to improve the quality of the learning process at Universitas Andalas.

As a concrete form of support for improving educational quality, LP3M Universitas Andalas also provided 75 grants under the Research on Educational Development and Quality Assurance Program (PPMP), with each proposal receiving Rp5 million. This grant program was intended to encourage lecturers to innovate in developing teaching materials and more effective learning methods.

Through the combination of the teaching materials development workshop and the grant program, Universitas Andalas hopes to strengthen a culture of quality in the educational process and improve the quality of graduates who are able to compete in the job market. This initiative reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to building a higher education system that is innovative, adaptive, and of high quality, while also supporting the achievement of SDG 4 and SDG 9 through strengthened academic capacity and learning innovation in higher education.
