Universitas Andalas Public Health Students Carry Out Dengue Prevention Outreach Program at SDN 04 Pauh in Support of SDG 3 and SDG 4
Padang, 22 November 2025
As part of its contribution to SDG 3 (Good Health
and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), students from the Faculty of
Public Health (FKM), Universitas Andalas conducted a health education program
on dengue fever (DBD) prevention for elementary school students at SDN 04 Pauh.
The program was carried out by Group 10 of the
Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program under the supervision of Suci
Muchtariza, SKM., M.Epid, involving Hana Fauziyah Alvin, Indah Dwi Lestari, and
Mutyia Rahmadina.
The activity was implemented in two stages. The
first stage was a pre-test conducted on Friday, November 21, 2025, in the
classroom to assess students’ initial knowledge about dengue fever. The
assessment covered topics such as the definition of the disease, transmission
methods, characteristics of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, symptoms, and prevention
strategies among students from grades IV, V, and VI.
The second stage took place on Saturday, November
22, 2025, consisting of health education sessions followed by a post-test.
During this session, the team delivered materials in an interactive and
engaging manner using simple and student-friendly language.
The educational content included an introduction to
dengue fever, identification of the mosquito vector, symptoms of infection, and
preventive measures through the “3M Plus” approach—draining water containers,
tightly covering water storage, burying unused items that can collect water,
and additional preventive actions. The session was complemented by interactive
discussions and a question-and-answer segment to encourage student
participation.
The post-test results showed a significant
improvement in students’ understanding of dengue prevention and the importance
of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene. To increase engagement, the
team also provided rewards for active participants during the session.
Principal of SDN 04 Pauh, Fatniwati, expressed
appreciation for the initiative. “We strongly support this activity, especially
since there were students previously confirmed with dengue and several others
frequently absent due to illness. We hope this program helps students better
understand the importance of maintaining hygiene to prevent dengue,” she
stated.
Through this initiative, Universitas Andalas
students aim not only to raise awareness about dengue fever but also to
encourage students to adopt clean and healthy living behaviors and become
agents of change within their school and home environments.
