Padang, 26 February 2024
The academic
community of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Andalas, carried out a community service
program focused on coastal cleanliness, supporting SDG 14 (Life Below Water)
and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The initiative aimed to raise awareness about
marine pollution and environmental protection among coastal communities.
The activity was
conducted in coastal areas of West Sumatra, involving lecturers, students, and
local residents in discussions and practical actions to address environmental
issues affecting marine ecosystems.
Through this
program, participants were educated about the legal, environmental, and social
implications of coastal pollution, particularly the impact of plastic waste on
marine biodiversity and ecosystem sustainability.
The initiative also
included collaborative clean-up activities, encouraging direct community
participation in maintaining coastal environments and promoting responsible
waste management practices.
By integrating
legal perspectives with environmental education, the program emphasized the
importance of regulations and community responsibility in preserving coastal
ecosystems.
Through this
community engagement, Universitas Andalas reinforces its role in promoting
environmental stewardship and sustainable coastal management.
