UNAND Supports SDG 11 and SDG 17 through Free Motorcycle Service for Post-Flood Recovery

Padang, 04 December 2025

Padang, December 4, 2025 — Universitas Andalas (UNAND), in collaboration with Honda and Yamaha, organized a free post-disaster motorcycle service program to support residents affected by flooding in Padang City, particularly in Pauh District.

The service was held on Thursday, December 4, at the South Parking Area of the UNAND Auditorium, Limau Manis Campus, Padang. The program was designed to help restore community mobility after many motorcycles belonging to students, staff, and residents were submerged by floodwater and suffered damage to engines, oil systems, and electrical components.

Through this activity, Yamaha provided service during the one-day event at UNAND. Meanwhile, Honda opened services for three days until December 6, with operating hours from 08.00 a.m. to 04.00 p.m. The program also provided vehicle pick-up facilities for participants who were unable to bring their motorcycles directly to the service location.

For Yamaha users, the main service program was available until December 7, while branch services were open until December 6. This arrangement was made to ensure that more flood-affected motorcycles could receive proper handling and maintenance after the disaster.

The free service program reflected UNAND’s concern for accelerating post-flood recovery, especially for students, employees, and community members whose daily activities depend on motorcycles. In addition to helping repair damaged vehicles, the program also became part of the Corporate Social Responsibility support from PT Hayati Pratama Mandiri and Yamaha in assisting disaster recovery efforts.

UNAND Rector, who visited the service location, emphasized the importance of making full use of the facility. He encouraged affected students and community members to take advantage of the free motorcycle service so they could resume their daily activities more quickly after the flood.

In addition to motorcycle repair services, the activity also included the distribution of basic food packages to students and residents whose motorcycles were affected by the flood. One student who received the service expressed appreciation, saying that the assistance was very helpful and showed that UNAND paid attention not only to housing-related support but also to other practical needs after the disaster.

This initiative supports SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities by helping restore community mobility and daily activities after a flood disaster. By assisting affected residents with transportation recovery, UNAND contributed to a more responsive and inclusive post-disaster recovery process.

The program also aligns with SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals because it was implemented through collaboration between UNAND, Honda, Yamaha, PT Hayati Pratama Mandiri, and other stakeholders. This partnership shows how universities and private-sector partners can work together to provide practical support for communities during recovery.

Through this free motorcycle service program, UNAND reaffirmed its role as a campus that remains present for the community in times of crisis. By combining institutional concern, private-sector support, and direct assistance for affected residents, the activity strengthened solidarity and helped accelerate post-flood recovery in Padang.
