UNAND and RSIA Bunda Jakarta Support SDG 3 and SDG 4 through Specialist Medical Education Collaboration
Padang, 24 December 2025
Padang, December 24, 2025 — Universitas Andalas (UNAND) continues to expand strategic
partnerships to strengthen medical education and healthcare services. The
university officially signed a cooperation agreement with Rumah Sakit Ibu Anak
Bunda Jakarta to support the implementation of the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Specialist Medical Education Program.
The signing ceremony was held on
Wednesday, December 24, at the Leadership Meeting Room, 4th Floor of the UNAND
Rectorate Building. This collaboration marks an important step for UNAND in
strengthening specialist medical education, particularly in developing the
clinical competencies of students in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist
Program at the Faculty of Medicine.
Through this agreement, UNAND and
RSIA Bunda Jakarta will work together in education, training, and clinical
competency development for participants of the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Specialist Program. The partnership is expected to expand UNAND’s clinical
education network while improving the quality of specialist doctor graduates
who are professional, competent, and oriented toward high-quality healthcare
services.
This cooperation also supports
UNAND’s efforts to strengthen the national medical education system and improve
the quality of healthcare services, especially in the field of maternal and
child health. By collaborating with a credible and experienced healthcare
institution, UNAND aims to ensure that specialist medical education remains
closely connected to real clinical service needs.
UNAND Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr.
Henmaidi, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., emphasized that Indonesia still has a very high need
for specialist doctors. He stated that the presence of specialists who are able
to serve the community is urgently needed, and that this collaboration reflects
a synergy that can make shared efforts more effective and easier to carry out.
The importance of this partnership
was also reinforced by dr. Etik Wuryanti, MARS, who presented data on the
shortage of specialist doctors in Indonesia. According to the data she shared,
around 159 regencies and cities in Indonesia still face limited access to
specialist medical personnel, both in rural and urban areas.
For this reason, the collaboration
between UNAND and RSIA Bunda Jakarta is considered an important initiative to
support the development of high-quality specialist doctors who are ready to
respond to public healthcare needs. The partnership is also expected to
contribute to improving the availability and quality of specialist services,
particularly in obstetrics and gynecology.
This initiative supports SDG 3
Good Health and Well-being by contributing to the improvement of healthcare
services, especially in maternal and child health. By strengthening the
education and clinical training of obstetrics and gynecology specialists, UNAND
helps support the availability of competent health professionals for
communities that still need specialist services.
The collaboration also aligns with SDG
4 Quality Education because it strengthens specialist medical education
through clinical training, institutional partnership, and competency
development. Through this cooperation, UNAND continues to improve the quality
of its medical education ecosystem and prepare graduates who can contribute
professionally to Indonesia’s healthcare system.
Through this agreement, UNAND
reaffirmed its commitment to building impactful partnerships in education and
health. The cooperation with RSIA Bunda Jakarta is expected to become a
strategic platform for producing qualified specialist doctors, expanding
clinical education networks, and strengthening UNAND’s contribution to national
health development.
