Padang, 23 December 2025

Padang — Andalas University continues to strengthen its contribution to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) as three of its lecturers have been recognized in the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists 2023 list released by Stanford University. This achievement highlights the university’s growing impact in producing globally recognized research.

Rector of Andalas University, Efa Yonnedi, confirmed the accomplishment and emphasized that the ranking, compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, is one of the most respected international benchmarks in the scientific community. He stated, “This ranking does not only measure the number of publications, but more importantly the impact and influence of research. The key indicator is the number of citations in global databases such as Scopus by researchers worldwide.”

The three Andalas University scientists included in the list represent diverse fields of expertise. They are Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir. Hairul Abral from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, known for his work in material engineering and environmentally friendly biocomposites; Prof. Dr. Rahmiana Zein, M.Sc. from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, specializing in environmental analytical chemistry; and Dr. Roni Pazla, S.Pt., M.P. from the Faculty of Animal Science, Campus II Payakumbuh, whose research focuses on ruminant nutrition to support food security and livestock productivity.

According to the report, Stanford University and its expert team evaluated more than eight million active scientists worldwide to compile the list. Rector Efa Yonnedi noted that this achievement reflects a positive trend and consistent improvement in research quality at Andalas University.

He further highlighted that in the previous year, two Andalas University lecturers were included in the same list, and the addition of another researcher this year further strengthens the university’s position as one of Indonesia’s leading research institutions. “This is clear evidence of the hard work, dedication, and quality of our researchers. It is a source of pride for the institution and a motivation for the entire academic community to continue producing impactful and relevant research,” he added.

This recognition is expected to inspire other researchers at Andalas University and across Indonesia to continue innovating and strengthening the contribution of science to society. Through this international acknowledgment, Andalas University reaffirms its commitment to advancing quality higher education and impactful research in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
