Padang, 16 March 2025

Padang, March 16, 2025 — Universitas Andalas continues to strengthen its contribution to sustainable development, particularly in supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by officially becoming a Cash Waqf Nazir Institution. This recognition, granted by the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), reinforces the university’s role in managing waqf funds to support education, research, and community empowerment.

The status was formalized through an official registration document numbered 3.3.00474, issued on February 26, 2025, in Jakarta. The certificate, signed by the Chairman of BWI, Prof. Kamaruddin Amin, authorizes Universitas Andalas to professionally manage cash waqf in accordance with sharia principles and national regulations, with validity until February 26, 2030. The institution is officially registered at the Rectorate Building of Universitas Andalas, Limau Manis, Padang.

Rector of Universitas Andalas, Efa Yonnedi, welcomed the recognition as a significant milestone for the university. “With this legal status, we are ready to manage and develop waqf funds that will be utilized for education, research, and community service,” he stated. He further emphasized that the designation strengthens Islamic philanthropic movements within the academic environment. “This reflects the university’s commitment to managing waqf in support of education, research, and community empowerment programs,” he added.

With this new status, Universitas Andalas is now authorized to manage waqf funds professionally and expand their utilization to support sustainable development, particularly in education and innovation. It also enables the public and the university’s academic community to contribute cash waqf more easily and securely.

The Rector expressed hope that this initiative would mark a positive beginning for the advancement of waqf management in Indonesia. “We hope this becomes a strong foundation for managing waqf to support national development and community welfare,” he concluded.

Through this milestone, Universitas Andalas reaffirms its role in strengthening the ecosystem of Islamic philanthropy within academia through accountable, structured, and impactful governance.
