Padang, 16 December 2024
Solok, West Sumatra — Universitas Andalas continues
to support public health awareness and education in line with SDG 3 (Good
Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) through a community
outreach initiative led by students from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM).
The program was conducted in Alahan Panjang, Solok Regency, focusing on
hypertension prevention through the SIAGA program.
The activity was carried out as part of the
students’ community service program, aiming to improve public understanding of
hypertension and the importance of early prevention through healthy lifestyle
practices. The initiative also sought to raise awareness of common risk factors
associated with hypertension in daily life.
During the program, students provided health
education sessions covering the definition of hypertension, its risk factors,
symptoms, and preventive measures. The SIAGA program was introduced as an
approach to encourage individuals to be more proactive in maintaining their
health and adopting consistent healthy behaviors.
Participants were encouraged to adopt healthier
lifestyles, including maintaining a balanced diet, reducing salt intake,
engaging in regular physical activity, and routinely monitoring blood pressure.
The outreach was conducted interactively, allowing community members to engage
in discussions and better understand the health information presented.
The program received positive responses from the
local community, as it provided practical knowledge for preventing
non-communicable diseases. Through this initiative, Universitas Andalas
students aim to enhance public awareness of health issues and promote
behavioral changes that reduce the risk of hypertension and other chronic
diseases.
