One Million Trees Movement Declared at Bukit Karumuntiang to Strengthen Environmental Sustainability in line with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land)

West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah
officiated the Bukit Karumuntiang Declaration, an initiative led by the Alumni
Association of the Faculty of Agriculture at Andalas University (IKA Faperta
Unand). The declaration was marked by a symbolic planting of one million
fostered trees at the Experimental Garden of Unand’s Faculty of Agriculture in
Limau Manis, Padang, on Saturday (February 7, 2026).
The declaration of the One Million Trees
Movement at Bukit Karumuntiang marks a significant environmental initiative
aimed at restoring ecosystems and promoting sustainable land management.
The event was held at the Experimental Farm of
the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas, and attended by the Governor
of West Sumatra, alumni, and members of the academic community.
The movement was initiated by alumni of the
Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas as part of a long-term commitment
to environmental conservation.
The program targets the planting of one
million trees, beginning with a symbolic tree planting ceremony to mark the
start of the initiative.
The implementation involves collaboration
among alumni, students, local government, and surrounding communities to ensure
continuity and long-term impact.
Through this movement, it is expected that
environmental awareness will increase while contributing to carbon reduction
and the preservation of ecosystems in West Sumatra.
