Lecturers’ Book Productivity Earns Universitas Andalas National Library Award, Advancing Literacy Culture and Supporting SDG 4 and SDG 9

The commitment of the Universitas Andalas academic community to producing
scholarly works and academic books has once again received national
recognition. This achievement aligns with efforts to support the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which emphasizes
the strengthening of education quality and literacy, and SDG 9 (Industry,
Innovation and Infrastructure), which encourages the development of innovation
and knowledge ecosystems through scientific publications.
Universitas Andalas received an award in the university publisher category
from the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas). The award
was presented during the Appreciation Week for the Implementation of the
Deposit of Printed and Recorded Works held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. It
was granted as a form of appreciation to publishers that have fulfilled their
obligation to submit printed and recorded works to the National Library in
accordance with prevailing regulations.
Head of the Publisher at the Institute for Research and Community Service
(LPPM) of Universitas Andalas, Heru Dibyo Laksono, stated that the award was a
recognition of the dedication and hard work of Universitas Andalas lecturers in
producing quality books that are beneficial to society. According to him, this
accomplishment is a proud achievement for the entire academic community of
Universitas Andalas and at the same time serves as motivation to continue
improving the quality of academic publications in the future.
In addition to the award in the university publisher category, Universitas
Andalas’ achievement was further strengthened by the success of one of its
lecturers, who was selected as one of the National Library’s best book authors.
The book entitled Restriction of Citizens’ Voting Rights won first place in the
election subject category. The award was presented directly by the Head of the
National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, as a form of appreciation for authors
who have produced quality works and submitted them to the National Library.
Director of Deposit and Collection Development at the National Library,
Emyati Lembang, explained that the award was given as a form of government
appreciation and also to encourage publishers and authors to continue producing
quality works while fulfilling their obligation to deposit printed and recorded
works in accordance with Law Number 13 of 2018. This effort is expected to
strengthen the preservation of the nation’s intellectual works while also
fostering a culture of literacy in society.
This achievement reflects Universitas Andalas’ strong commitment to
encouraging academic productivity through the publication of books and
scholarly works. With more lecturers’ works being published and disseminated to
the public, Universitas Andalas is not only strengthening its role as a center
for knowledge development, but also contributing to the advancement of national
literacy culture and supporting quality education and sustainable knowledge
innovation.
