Eco Expo GRE 2025 Showcases Creative Recycling Innovation to Promote Environmental Awareness in line with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action)
Padang, 28 October 2025
Eco Expo GRE 2025
emerged as a tangible manifestation of environmental awareness through creative
recycling initiatives, aligning with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and
Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The event highlighted how innovation,
education, and community engagement can play a crucial role in addressing
pressing environmental challenges, particularly those related to waste
generation and unsustainable consumption patterns.
The event was
organized by students of Universitas Andalas under the Green Recycle Expo (GRE)
2025 program and was held in Padang as part of a broader environmental
campaign. It brought together students, local communities, and environmental
activists who share a growing concern about the increasing volume of waste and
its impact on ecosystems and public health.
Through this expo,
participants showcased a wide range of recycled products created from waste
materials such as plastic, paper, and other discarded items that are commonly
found in daily life. These materials were creatively transformed into products
with economic and functional value, including handicrafts, home decorations,
and practical household items, demonstrating the potential of waste as a
resource.
The main objective
of the event was to educate the public about the importance of waste reduction,
sorting, and recycling while also encouraging behavioral change toward more
sustainable lifestyles. By presenting real and tangible examples of recycling
innovation, the organizers aimed to inspire visitors to rethink their
consumption habits and actively participate in environmental preservation
efforts.
In addition, the
expo served as a platform for students to develop their creativity,
entrepreneurial skills, and environmental awareness simultaneously. It also
strengthened collaboration between academic institutions and the wider
community in promoting sustainability initiatives that are both impactful and
scalable.
Through Eco Expo
GRE 2025, Universitas Andalas reaffirmed its commitment to environmental
sustainability by empowering the younger generation to become proactive agents
of change who contribute to reducing waste, promoting circular economy
practices, and mitigating the impacts of climate change in their communities.
