preparedness, and response mechanisms in disaster-prone regions.
The designation was

in Padang, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government
institutions and academia in addressing disaster risks, particularly in West
Sumatra, which is highly vulnerable to earthquakes and other natural hazards.

This includes developing scientific studies, risk mapping, and innovative
approaches to strengthen early warning systems and community preparedness.
The university has
already demonstrated strong capacity in disaster-related research through
interdisciplinary collaborations involving various faculties, including
engineering, environmental science, and public health. These efforts contribute
to more comprehensive and evidence-based disaster management strategies.
In addition,
Universitas Andalas will actively support training programs, policy
recommendations, and community outreach initiatives to enhance disaster
awareness and preparedness at the local and regional levels.
