Andalas University Supports Maternal and Child Health through Strengthening Health Cadres in Line with SDG 3 and SDG 17
Padang, 05 December 2021
Andalas University continues to support the
achievement of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for
the Goals) by strengthening maternal and child health services through capacity
building for community health cadres. The program was conducted in Nagari
Kambang Utara, Lengayang District, Pesisir Selatan Regency, as part of efforts
to enhance community-based healthcare services.
The initiative was organized by the Institute for
Research and Community Service (LPPM) Andalas University. Chair of the community
service program, Yulizawati, S.ST., M.Keb, explained that the activity involved
a team of 12 members consisting of lecturers and students. The program carried
the theme “Empowering Health Cadres to Optimize Maternal and Child Health (MCH)
and Family Planning (FP) Services during the COVID-19 Pandemic toward Achieving
Healthy and Prosperous Lives by 2030.”
The training focused on improving knowledge and
skills related to newborn care, infants, toddlers, and children, including
growth monitoring and early detection of developmental issues. A total of 32
health cadres participated in the program, receiving both theoretical and
practical guidance to enhance their capacity in delivering basic health
services.
According to Yulizawati, education, regular monitoring
of child growth, and early detection are essential to ensure that any health
issues can be addressed promptly. Delayed intervention, she noted, may lead to
more severe conditions and reduce the effectiveness of treatment.
Through this initiative, Andalas University aims to
strengthen the role of community health cadres in supporting maternal and child
health as well as family planning services. The program also encourages
communities to pay close attention to children’s health from infancy through
early childhood.
This effort highlights Andalas University’
commitment to promoting healthy and prosperous lives through the strengthening
of primary healthcare services, while also fostering collaboration among
stakeholders to support sustainable development goals.
