Andalas University Seeks BPKH Scholarship Support to Assist Underprivileged Students in line with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)
Padang, 08 March 2025
Andalas University is strengthening its
commitment to inclusive education by seeking scholarship support from the
Indonesian Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), in line with SDG 4 (Quality
Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). This initiative aims to expand
access to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds.
The proposal was conveyed by the Vice Rector
for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Syukri Arief, during a meeting held in
Padang on March 7, 2025, as part of efforts to secure additional financial
support for students.
The need for additional scholarships arises
from the limited quota of the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP), which only covers
around 1,400 students annually, while approximately 2,500 students require
financial assistance each year.
To address this gap, Andalas University has
actively collaborated with various institutions, including Baznas, alumni
networks, and other organizations, to provide broader scholarship opportunities
for students in need.
In response, BPKH representative, Harry
Alexander, expressed his willingness to support the initiative and explore the
possibility of providing scholarships to Andalas University students, following
similar programs implemented at other universities.
Through this collaboration, Andalas University
hopes to ensure that more students can continue their education without
financial barriers, ultimately contributing to the development of high-quality
human resources in Indonesia.
