The international recognition received by an Andalas University scientist through the AD Scientific Index reflects the university’s contribution to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). The achievement illustrates how strong research performance and sustained scientific productivity can elevate institutional reputation while also strengthening innovation capacity in strategic fields.

According to an ANTARA report published on November 7, 2023, Dr. Eng. Muhammad Makky of Andalas University was listed among the top 100 researchers in Indonesia by the Alper-Doger Scientific Index. The recognition was announced in Padang by the rector of Andalas University, Professor Yuliandri, who described the ranking as evidence of international acknowledgment of the university’s research quality.

Muhammad Makky was recognized for his work in oil palm, automation, machine vision, spectroscopy, and non-destructive evaluation. The rector explained that the AD Scientific Index ranks scientists based on their scientific performance and the added value of their scientific productivity over the previous six years.

The recognition is important not only for the individual researcher, but also for Andalas University as an institution that continues to invest in academic development and research excellence. By highlighting a scholar from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, the news also underscores the university’s ability to produce internationally visible work in fields that connect science, technology, and applied innovation.

University leaders expressed hope that Makky’s achievement would inspire other researchers at Andalas University to continue publishing and strengthening the culture of scholarship. Such recognition can encourage broader academic ambition, motivate younger researchers, and reinforce the importance of consistent research output in building a globally respected university environment.

Through this achievement, Andalas University further demonstrates that the quality of higher education is closely linked to the strength of its research ecosystem. Internationally recognized scholars not only enhance university prestige, but also contribute to the development of knowledge, technology, and innovation that can create wider benefits for society.
