Andalas University KKN Students Realize Clean Energy for a Sustainable Nagari through Solar Street Light Installation in Nagari Pagadih in Support of SDG 7 and SDG 11

Agam, West Sumatra — Andalas University continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development through its Community Service Program (KKN), supporting SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Students installed solar-powered street lighting in Nagari Pagadih, Agam Regency, to improve nighttime visibility and promote the use of renewable energy in rural areas.

The installation was carried out at several strategic locations across the village, particularly in areas that previously lacked adequate lighting infrastructure. By utilizing solar energy as the primary power source, the street lights are expected to operate independently of conventional electricity, which is often limited in rural settings such as Nagari Pagadih.

The program was implemented collaboratively between KKN students and local residents, reflecting a community-based approach to development. This cooperation not only ensured the smooth installation of the system but also strengthened local participation and ownership of the initiative.

In addition to the technical installation, students conducted educational sessions for residents on the importance of renewable energy and the proper maintenance of solar panels to ensure long-term functionality. The initiative received positive responses from the community.

The Head of Nagari Pagadih expressed strong appreciation for the initiative, noting that the program has improved safety and comfort for residents during nighttime activities while also raising awareness about environmentally friendly energy use.
