Andalas University Develops PCR Raw Materials to Strengthen National Health Independence in line with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure)
Padang, 03 June 2025
The development of PCR testing raw materials
by researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at Andalas University represents a
strategic effort to strengthen Indonesia’s health system and reduce dependency
on imported medical technologies.
This innovation was introduced by a research
team from the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, as part of the
university’s commitment to advancing health research and supporting national
resilience in diagnostic capabilities.
Currently, Indonesia still relies heavily on
imported raw materials for PCR testing, which can create supply
vulnerabilities, particularly during global health crises such as pandemics.
Through laboratory research conducted at Andalas
University, the team successfully developed raw materials that can be used in
PCR testing to detect infectious diseases more efficiently.
This innovation is expected to enhance
domestic production capacity for diagnostic tools while also reducing testing
costs and improving accessibility for healthcare services.
With this development, Andalas University
reinforces its role as a key contributor in advancing medical innovation and
strengthening national independence in healthcare technology.
