Advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Padang Vice Mayor Appreciates Universitas Andalas FMIPA Blood Donation Initiative
Padang, 30 August 2025
Padang, August 30, 2025 — As
part of its contribution to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17
(Partnerships for the Goals), Universitas Andalas, through the Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), organized a blood donation drive during
its Lustrum XIV celebration at Basko City Mall. The initiative received
appreciation from Padang Vice Mayor Maigus Nasir for its strong humanitarian
value and social impact.
Maigus Nasir highlighted that
the blood donation activity is highly relevant to the needs of the Padang
community. He noted that the city requires approximately 200 units of blood per
day, while current availability only meets about half of that demand.
Therefore, he considered the initiative by FMIPA Universitas Andalas as a significant
contribution to addressing this gap.
He also expressed hope that
similar initiatives would be adopted by other faculties and higher education
institutions in Padang, enabling the blood donation movement to grow
sustainably. Furthermore, he appreciated the choice of venue at a shopping
center, which he believes is more effective in attracting public participation
compared to conventional locations such as hospitals or PMI offices.
Dean of FMIPA Universitas
Andalas, Prof. Dr. Mai Efdi, M.Si., explained that the blood donation activity
is part of the Lustrum XIV series, which not only focuses on academic
achievements but also emphasizes community service. He stated that the lustrum
celebration serves as a momentum for the academic community to demonstrate social
responsibility in a tangible way.
The event was attended by
various stakeholders, including representatives from the local government,
Padang Health Office, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), sub-district officials,
and other partners, all of whom contributed to the success of this humanitarian
initiative.
Through this activity,
Universitas Andalas reaffirms its role in promoting public health awareness and
strengthening collaborative efforts to address community health needs.
